Central District is an urban district in Taichung, the biggest city in Central Taiwan. Although it locates at the heart of Taichung, it has dramatically declined in recent years. In the Japanese era, the area saw mass development. The riverbank was framed in trees that brighten up the natural landscape. The citizen enjoyed night walks and boat tours and built precious collective memories. However, under the Republic of China, the government shifted the focus to new districts, leading to the Central district lacked maintenance. And later, the river became stinky, so the government covered it with roads and erased the river in the city.
