ABOUT MY INTERNSHIP

This summer, I interned as a product designer on the VR DES Monetization and Store team.

Last year, Meta launched the VR App Referral program, leveraging friends’ recommendation power to drive app purchases and increase friends’ co-plying in VR. The program has been a huge success; however, this is not the end goal but the beginning.

During this internship, I led a project to implement a similar experience in VR and identified the high-intent surfaces for meaningful social interactions to drive monetization initiatives.

This work is under NDA.

Challenges & Learnings

Be Brave:
Take ownership to initiate better collaboration

In Meta's Reality Labs, I loved the liberty of having fluid product ownership. It let me use agile strategies and work with an undefined team setup, leading to shared victory. I realized owning up can mean organizing my tasks and recognizing the objectives of various groups to find answers that help everyone.

Be Flexible:
Match strategy to the situation

Throughout my internship, I gained a deep appreciation for the importance of adaptability in a complex work environment. With numerous goals and competing priorities, it became clear that comprehending our shared roadmap was crucial for our collective success. This meant being flexible during the design phases and ensuring everyone was on the same page regarding timelines and next steps. Embracing the dynamic nature of this setting has proven to be an invaluable learning opportunity and has left me eager to continue thriving within it.

Be Resourceful:
Document learning experience

I have been constantly exposed to new tools and valuable insights within the industry on a daily basis. Collaborating and sharing these insights with my team has not only helped us avoid repeating tasks but has also allowed us to save time and gain valuable tips. As a fresh addition to the team, I have offered new perspectives to ongoing projects and processes. By keeping a record of my learning journey, I have created a valuable resource for our team's continuous growth.
